This class is for all levels; beginners are welcome.  Please bring your mat to class and feel free to bring something light to cover yourself in shavasana (final relaxation).  Class cost is $8 per class or save money and purchase a punch card -5 class punch card for $30 ($6 per class) / 10 class card for $50 ($5 per class).  Cash only.

What is hatha Yoga? The hatha Class involves a moderately energetic flow of exercises and postures creating a state of stillness and harmony between body, mind and spirit. The class uses physical movement to create mental stillness and is essentially a 'moving meditation', the aim being to energize the body and calm the mind.

The class begins with some gentle opening and stretching exercises followed by moving on to various sequences of the traditional yoga postures (Asanas). There is a strong focus on the use of the breath and breathing techniques (Pranayama) to both encourage flowing from one posture to another and to centre the mind.  The emphasis is on a non competitive individual yoga practice where students are encouraged to explore their own boundaries and progress at their own unique pace.

Benefits - The many physical benefits of hatha yoga are: it improves flexibility and muscle joint mobility; strengthens, tones, and builds muscles; corrects posture; strengthens the spine; eases back pain; improves muscular-skeletal conditions such as bad knees, tight shoulders and neck, swayback and scoliosis; increases stamina; creates balance and grace; stimulates the glands of the endocrine system; improves digestion and elimination; increases circulation; improves heart conditions; improves breathing disorders; boosts immune response; decreases cholesterol and blood sugar levels; and encourages weight loss.

The mental benefits include: it increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns in the body; refreshes the body by relieving muscle strain; relaxes the mind and body; centers attention; sharpens concentration; and frees the spirit.

Western doctors and scientists are discovering additional health benefits of hatha yoga. Studies have shown that it may relieve the symptoms of several common and potentially life-threatening illnesses; such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, diabetes, Immune system defficiency, asthma and obesity. Many believe it even fends off the ravages of old age.
